Growing Green

At Richmond Centre we know that our customers and merchants have high expectations for us to reduce the environmental impact of our operations.

We have long taken pride in adopting progressive environmental standards and practices that demonstrate our commitment to social responsibility. We are constantly evaluating how we manage the centre, looking for innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint and minimize our impact on the planet.

We are proud to announce that Richmond Centre has met all of the BOMA BESt level 1 requirements. These relate to energy and water management; emissions and effluents; waste reduction; the indoor environment; and environmental management systems.

This is a large undertaking and an ongoing journey that will require determinations and innovation, but we are confident that it can be achieved and we take pride knowing that our customers and merchants are eager to participate in the Growing Green program at Richmond Centre.

To learn more about Richmond Centre’s green initiatives to date and what we are working on accomplishing, please review our Growing Green Initiatives.

Monthly Tips

Energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs. It's getting darker earlier and you will be keeping your lights on for longer periods of time. Save energy. Switch from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Wasted energy. Did you know a computer left on for 24 hours uses the same amount of energy as a 13W compact fluorescent light bulb left on for almost 10 days?

Vacation mode. When you are going away for long periods of time, remember to put your hot water tank on vacation mode. Why pay to heat water that you are not using?

Make it a policy. Provide reusuable dishes, silverware and glasses for the office. Plus use filtered drinking water to reduce bottled water waste.

Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. Sign up to join thousands of Canadians help clean up our shores Sept. 18-26, 2010. Learn more about the conservation partnership between Vancouver Aquarium and WWF-Canada.
